Today I witnessed one of the great sights in nature. After eating a hardy breakfast, Amanda and I and the two dogs headed up to Lake Tahoe for an afternoon adventure. This trip was well worth our time. In Nevada, October is not only the month of the pumpkin, it is also the month of the mighty salmon. Every fall, the kokanee salmon leave the Lake and begin their journey up Taylor Creek to spawn, and every year thousands of people go up to the lake to view this incredible sight. Today happened to be the perfect day to go up. Not only did we get to see the salmon, but I had the oppurtunity to sit and watch a flock of mergansers trying desperately to catch the fish as they were hanging out over their spawning beds. The salmon were a brilliant red, and looked to average about 3-4 pounds each. The mergansers were a sight to see also. Mergansers, can you believe it! Beautiful ducks. Not to bright, nor are they good fisherman, but beautiful ducks nonetheless.
To make the day more perfect, the camp down the road was having an oktoberfest celebration! I, of course, had a big polish sausage and it was delectible. The photo you see is a stein holding contest. The guys had to hold the steins straight out ahead of them as long as they could. A great day overall.

Until next time, enjoy your wild America
